Construction Administration

What do you enjoy most about being on a job site?

"I like walking on the site and seeing what our team has designed come to fruition. It is especially rewarding when the contractor is as proud of a successful project as the architect."

What is your favorite local restaurant?

"My favorite style of food is Mexican. I typically visit the local Mexican restaurants, especially
El Rodeo. Other personal favorites include Montano's and Wildflour Cafe."

PAST: Dennis was born and raised in the Roanoke Valley. He graduated from Virginia Western Community College with an Associate’s degree in Architectural Engineering Technology and later attended Virginia Tech. Dennis’s vast knowledge of the built environment is due to his extensive work experience. He served over 32 years at a mid-sized architectural firm in Roanoke. Dennis also spent several years as a project manager for a high-end residential construction company in Pinehurst, N.C. Although he has retired from the daily grind, Dennis joins us on a part-time, by project, basis. His knowledge and sharp eye for detail not only gives each project a high-level of quality, but also provides growth opportunities for the next generation of architects.

WORK: Dennis enjoys working in the field with superintendents, contractors and other building trade specialists. This experience and teamwork not only gains him the respect of the on-site crew, but also opens new lines of communication that ultimately benefit the client. While many architects are able to design, few have a truly comprehensive knowledge of the building process. On many occasions Dennis has solved issues through on-site sketches that the crew was easily able to implement. His knowledge assists in streamlining the building process to achieve accurate results within the scheduled time frame.

PLAY: Dennis constantly strives to increase his knowledge through reading. He has recently become an avid beer brewer which is a passion he shares with son. Dennis can also be found at Virginia Tech football games cheering on the Hokies. He enjoys spending time in his wood workshop and traveling with his wife, Donna, and their two grown children, Chris and Tiffany.
