Taubman Museum of Art

Gallery Renovation

Location: Roanoke, VA
Project Type: Interior Renovation
Project Size: 5,700 sq. ft.

Originally founded as the Art Museum of Western Virginia in 1947, the Taubman Museum of Art has become an iconic feature of the downtown Roanoke skyline. To expand their capacity, the museum hired IDG to complete the renovation of a previously unfinished space. Originally slated to become a theater, the space is now the Special Exhibition Gallery. This renovation included additional entrances, built-out walls with rear access to support the mounting of various art forms and media, a new ceiling with curved bulkheads, a new kiosk in an existing gallery, and the addition of a mezzanine in an existing storage space.
